Municipal. Services.
CRMLTD has been a long-term contractor to several municipalities and regional districts. In some cases, we even attach-post our staff as embedded consultants within the city departments. By contracting CRMLTD, municipalities can utilize our subject matter expertise and resources, as well as having GIS assets in place without the costly overhead of maintaining full-time positions. Our services to municipalities can range from simple mapping analyses, to being fully embedded in the Engineering department as GIS Operators. Our experience is extensive, so here are a few featured clients.
City of Nanaimo - Our technical design team designed a portable device with geographically intelligent software for the FireSmart program used by Fire Department to assess properties of Fire and Smoke hazards
IT, City of Campbell River - CRMLTD was contracted to plan, implement and manage a corporate GIS Server. Some specific tasks worth mentioning, includes needs and user-requirements assessments, preparing progress reports, stakeholders meetings, timeline assessments, build-up training of new staff, data reconciliation between legacy systems, compatibility assurance checks with legacy and to-be-purchased systems, maintain existing GIS.
Engineering Services, City of Campbell River - We seconded our SME to the Engineering Services department to serve as a GIS asset. The tasks were to maintain GIS spatial files, convert CAD to GIS, prepare and deliver spatial analyses and mapping driven by request queues. The GIS asset also consulted on numerous projects including Emergency Preparedness, Environmental Assessments, Public Works maintenance scheduling, technical survey of the existing GIS with recommendations. As SME's we introduced concepts such as Developer Electronic Submission (or DES). This model would enable Developers and Engineers to submit As-Built drawing plans electronically versus filing traditional paper maps, thus reducing the amount of work CAD technicians would have to do. CRMLTD's attach-posted asset also created Internet Mapping Services for the public as well as for internal use, by importing existing spatial files into a corporate GIS Server and publishing symbolized data.
Facilities/Materials Management, City of Campbell River - Our SMEs introduced the Building Information Management System (BIMS) to the department responsible for maintenance of City property. BIMS is a macro-level GIS which tracks internal assets within a building or sets of buildings. This is an exciting and cutting edge model, as it melds the world of architecture, blueprints with GIS, thus becoming a force-multiplier to the managers and their staff.
