Mobile Firesmart Program

With the wildfire blazes in recent times, many governments and communities have taken preventative measures to placate the damaging effects of fires before they start.  CRMLTD has contributed to the progress of these preventative measures by developing the first mobile WildFire Site Assessment and FireSmart© System.

CRMLTD chose to develop this program as a proactive initiative, it's principal objective is to reduce risk of fire losses and enhance safety in the wildland-urban interface. This fire-risk mitigation system is capable of handling the volume of information and field conditions users (Fire Department, Bylaw Officers, Law Enforcement, Provincial Agents) would face.

We can adapt the software to any current market offerings of mobile devices, but recommend lightweight, convenient and rugged units for the field. The devices are either outfitted with a customized spatial (mapping) interface using ArcPad or outfitted with a customized non-spatial stand-alone interface. Both use a two-way auto-synchronous communication portal for downloading captured information.

As on option we can integrate wireless bluetooth GPS/GIS functionality into  these solutions which assists the operator to record co-ordinate information or used as a positional feature. With myriad configuration possibilities, we can equip our clients with mission-critical software adaptable to any field or office unit.

For units or agencies requiring map-enabled interfaces, our portable GIS provides the ability to call up a map based on vectorized positioning of the hazard site and perform the following Hazard Assessments:

  • Wildfire
  • Structure & Site
  • Area
  • Fire Ignition
  • Fire Suppression

Typical information include:

  • Subdivision Design
  • Vegetation (Fuel Models)
  • Topography
  • additional Rating Factors
  •  Roofing material
  • Existing Building Construction
  • Available Fire Protection
  • Utilities (Gas & Electric)

This and additional information like Census data can be collected as well, and a calculated Total-Score and Hazard-Class-Rating can be determined for the cadastral plot.

Part of the package includes a desktop-integrated software that reports on teh field-gathered data. These reports integrate data collected from the field into print-ready forms. The structure or look of the reports can mimic any pre-existing format or can be customized to meet the needs of the user.
